    About the Provider

The temple where this project is being carried out was built in the 1980s and is home to approximately 40 monks.Novice monks and monks of various ages live at the temple. We began providing English education to the monks because, with the breakdown of the country's leadership and educated classes, we believe education is the most important factor for national development and growth.

In addition to the monks, we provide free education to neighboring residents and Cambodian children to improve English skills and knowledge in various fields. We are also an organization working to raise awareness among Cambodians about the importance and necessity of education.

    Accommodation

Participants will live in the volunteer accommodation together with volunteers of various nationalities.

The accommodation is located about a 5-minute walk from Phnom Penh's famous Russian Market.

The accommodation building has a restaurant and relaxation spaces where you can interact with other volunteers.

You can spend your free time there. The accommodation's restaurant provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Fans are provided in the accommodation by default, and air conditioning can be requested as an additional option.

Triple/quadruple rooms / private bathroom in the room / Wi-Fi provided / kitchen available / laundry service provided (1 USD/kg)

#Small tip about transportation in Cambodia

Cambodia's transportation infrastructure is weak, and public transportation systems like city buses and subways are not well developed. The main means of transport in Cambodia are motorcycle taxis (riding on the back of a motorcycle) and tuk-tuks, three-wheeled vehicles converted from motorcycles. Motorcycle taxis are very dangerous in terms of safety. Therefore, even if it costs a little more, we recommend using tuk-tuks for safety. Unlike regular taxis, tuk-tuks do not have fixed fares; prices are negotiated with the driver each time. Typical one-way fares start at about 2 USD, but costs vary greatly depending on distance, time of day, number of passengers, and other factors. You may be confused at first by this unfamiliar transport system, which is different from that in our country, but if you understand Cambodia's relatively limited transportation system and respect local customs, you will have a more enjoyable time in Cambodia!

    Location Overview

    Region:Cambodia, Phnom Penh

The official name of Cambodia is the Kingdom of Cambodia, and it borders Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand in southeastern Indochina.

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is the economic and political center where the painful past of French colonial rule coexists with modern development. The city is full of attractions such as the National Museum, the Royal Palace, the Prime Minister's residence, and the Independence Monument. However, rapid economic development has widened the gap between rich and poor, and you can also see Cambodians living in hardship.

Cambodia is also a Buddhist country; the majority of the population practices Buddhism and lives according to its teachings. If you walk around the city, you will often see monks wearing monastic robes. ThereforeCultural activities are centered around temples, and many travelers visit to see the temples and Buddhist culture.

    1. Russian Market
In the 1980s, this market was frequented by Russians living in Phnom Penh. It was named the Russian Market because it served as a place to sell various foods and Russian-made goods. Today it is used to sell daily necessities needed by local Cambodians. It is one of the largest markets in Phnom Penh and a traditional market visited by many travelers. A unique attraction of the Russian Market is visiting at night: you can taste a variety of foods and, by bargaining with vendors, purchase simple daily goods or Cambodian souvenirs featuring elephants.
    2. Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville is a seaside city located at the southern end of Cambodia. It is also one of Cambodia's main tourist resort cities.
Cambodia is bordered by land on three sides and by the sea on one side, so access to the sea and seafood is not always easy. However, the Sihanoukville beaches, about 4–5 hours from Phnom Penh, attract many foreign tourists and offer opportunities for scuba diving. It is a hidden paradise in Cambodia, perfect for eating, drinking, and having fun.
    3. Tonle Sap Lake
Cambodia is home to Tonle Sap Lake, the largest lake in East Asia. It is 16 km long and 36 km wide, an enormous lake ranked among the top five in the world. Surrounding the lake are floating house villages. Floating houses are homes built on the water. The houses on the water include various buildings such as schools, shops, and playgrounds. People living in the floating houses travel between their homes, markets, and schools in small boats like canoes. Also, 80% of the people living in the floating houses make their living through fishing, and many are of Vietnamese descent. This is because they left Vietnam during the Vietnam War and began settling in Cambodia. When visiting Cambodia, you can take a boat tour to observe life in the floating villages up close.
