This is a pottery expert project where you learn pottery directly with a master of Goryeo celadon in Gangjin and create your very own one-of-a-kind piece. This is not simply an experience of making pottery, but from the very moment you first touch the clay, you will directly experience and learn every step of how pottery is created as a work of art: the delicate touch of shaping, the decorative process of adding patterns, the transformation of the clay as it is coated with glaze, and finally the firing process completed at the temperature of fire over a long period of time. Learning alongside masters who have studied and crafted Goryeo celadon for decades, you will feel the depth and serene beauty inherent in traditional pottery and witness up close the moment when clay transforms into art. The one and only piece completed at my fingertips carries time, care, and my own story.
A single piece of fine pottery carries more than just simple craftsmanship; it fully reflects the master’s skill and experience accumulated over many years of working with clay and fire. This project is a specialized training program that allows participants to learn directly from the master, who has studied and handcrafted ceramics for decades, the deep skills and philosophy behind it. For more than 60 years, this master has carried on the tradition and craft of celadon while creating works, and his ceramics have been highly regarded not only in Korea but also abroad, with many people seeking his work even at this very moment. You can systematically learn every step of the pottery process, from the most basic sense of understanding clay, to the delicate touch of shaping, the decorative process of adding patterns, the transformation of the piece as it is coated with glaze, and finally firing, where it is completed at the temperature of fire after a long time. This is not just a simple experience, but a time to closely observe, feel, and create, up close, every step of the process a ceramic artist goes through to complete a single piece, allowing you to experience the serene beauty and profound world of ceramics. Goryeo celadon is one of Korea’s representative traditional ceramics, recognized worldwide for its subtly permeating jade-green hue and the delicate patterns intricately engraved upon it, earning it high artistic value. In this project, you will not only learn the traditional inlay celadon technique, but also directly study the original three-dimensional inlay technique that the master perfected after years of research and trial and error. Rather than simply engraving patterns onto the surface of the pottery, this technique expresses the patterns not merely in a flat manner but as if they are alive and moving in three dimensions, allowing us to create works that are deeper and more vivid. Based on unique techniques that are hard to find elsewhere, this is the process of creating a one-of-a-kind piece by adding my own thoughts, emotions, and the warmth of my fingertips. This process will lead not merely to production, but to a special experience in which clay, hand, and sensibility come together as one to complete the work. Within this, fully experience the profound beauty of ceramics and the joy of creation.
Pottery is a traditional art with a long history, but today its methods and production processes are becoming more refined through the development of various modern technologies and equipment. In this project, you can experience not only the traditional production methods used by ancient potters, but also the modern ceramic equipment and working techniques. Starting with the basic tactile sense of handling clay, you can learn both the delicacy inherent in traditional techniques and the refinement produced by modern equipment, while gaining a broad understanding of the various stages of ceramic production. This course goes beyond simply learning pottery techniques; it helps students gain a broader perspective and understand how traditional techniques harmonize with modern technology and are being inherited and developed in new forms. From the moment you shape clay by hand following traditional methods, to the process of enhancing the quality of your work using modern equipment, experience it firsthand and learn the special process through which traditional and modern techniques come together to complete a single work of art.
There are many opportunities to learn pottery, but chances to meet a master who has spent a lifetime studying clay are rare. Since the age of 19, Master Yoon Yoon-seop has followed the path of ceramics, personally proving that a fine celadon cannot be completed by the mere sensation of the fingertips. In search of better clay, he traveled across the country to kiln sites, personally collected and analyzed raw materials, and after countless studies of glazes and colors, he created a new chapter in history with layered-patterned celadon that combined Goryeo inlay techniques with Joseon gilding methods. This relentless research and original technological expertise have been highly recognized, to the extent that it was designated as Celadon Master No. 39, an Important Intangible Cultural Property. Even in the face of the risk of losing everything in the financial crisis, he never left the wheel, and through endless research and challenge, he has not stopped at recreating the past but continues to move forward to create new listeners suited to today’s era. In this project, participants will not only learn how to make pottery, but will also have a special experience of encountering up close the meaning behind even a handful of clay, the life and philosophy of an individual who has walked a single path throughout their lifetime, and the living tradition itself.
Gangjin is the birthplace of Korean ceramic culture and is known as the center of Goryeo celadon. Nearby stands the Goryeo Celadon Museum, where visitors can take a comprehensive look at the history and value of Goryeo celadon, and even today, countless potters continue to create their works here. In this project, you go beyond simply learning pottery-making techniques; you will live within a space where the history and culture of Goryeo celadon come alive, allowing you to experience the pottery culture up close. Within the ceramic culture that has carried on for a thousand years, visitors can tour the museum and studio, naturally experiencing the entire process from the making of pottery to its display, and observe up close the moment when clay, shaped by a master’s hands, is completed into a work of art, allowing visitors to appreciate the profound value and beauty of ceramics. Spending time in Gangjin will be a meaningful experience—not merely acquiring pottery skills, but deeply understanding traditional culture and art, and broadening your perspective on art. Experience a time to encounter living traditions within the thousand-year history created by ceramics and fully appreciate their value.

This is a professional pottery course in Gangjin, the city of Goryeo celadon, where you can learn pottery with a master and complete your own unique work. Participants will directly experience every step of the pottery-making process, from the basic process of handling clay, to the delicate touch of wheel throwing, to the decorative process of adding patterns, to the transformative process of glazing, and finally to firing, completed by the heat of fire. In particular, while learning the inlay techniques that represent the deep traditions of celadon, one can also acquire more refined and profound ceramic skills through original three-dimensional inlay techniques. Beyond simply acquiring pottery skills, this will be a profound pottery experience where you can directly feel the moment when clay is completed as art and create your own unique work.
■ Key Activities
1) Education on Goryeo Celadon and Ceramic Theory
You can learn about the history and characteristics of Goryeo celadon. We also take time to understand the types and characteristics of clay, the basic tools used in pottery work, and the working environment.
2) Clay Shaping and Wheel-Throwing Practice
Learn how to handle clay and shaping methods, which are the foundation of pottery making. By practicing hand shaping and wheel throwing firsthand, you will learn the basic skills needed to create a variety of shapes such as bowls, cups, and vases.
3) Inlay Techniques and Pattern Development
Learn the inlay technique that represents Goryeo celadon and practice how to express various patterns. Through the process of engraving and decorating patterns, one can experience the delicate beauty of traditional ceramics.
4) Advanced 3D Inlay and Shaping Techniques
Learn the original molding techniques developed by an artisan. It allows for more three-dimensional and profound expression than typical inlay techniques, and offers an opportunity to experience a special ceramic technique that is not easily found elsewhere.
5) Glazing and Firing Process
Learn the types and characteristics of glazes that determine the color and texture of ceramics, and carry out glazing work yourself. You will then experience the process of completing the work through the kiln firing stage.

It is a specialized pottery studio and ceramics museum located in Gangjin, the city of Goryeo Celadon. It is directly operated by a master who has researched and produced Goryeo Celadon for decades, and holds a patent by developing an original three-dimensional technique that modernly developed traditional inlaid celadon. Beyond a simple production space, this place is a venue of education where you can directly see, feel, and acquire the history, culture, and production technology of celadon. For a long period, it has guided pottery to numerous domestic and international visitors and trainees, and continues its artwork activities where the depth of tradition and modern sense coexist. In Gangjin, where the tradition of celadon holding a thousand years of time continues, you will directly feel the texture of clay with the master, and closely experience the entire process of the shape of ceramics being completed. And in that process, have a special experience of completing a work containing your own sense.
We arrange shared accommodation or a guesthouse so you can stay comfortably during the program.

It’s also a place where celadon culture and tea culture have flourished, offering everyday cultural experiences amid various arts and culture spaces and beautiful natural scenery.
1. Gangjin Bay Ecological Park
This is a well-known destination famous for its wide reed fields and beautiful wetland scenery. You can enjoy nature's changing scenery through the seasons, and take a relaxing walk along the trails. Especially at sunset, the sky turning red leaves visitors with lasting memories.
2. Goryeo Celadon Museum
The Goryeo Celadon Museum is a space where you can explore the thousand-year history and production process of Goryeo celadon. Through various exhibitions and hands-on programs, you can experience the beauty of traditional craftsmanship and naturally understand the meaning of work infused with an artisan spirit. Exhibits and artifacts also let you appreciate the excellence and artistic value of Goryeo celadon on a deeper level.
3. Baekundong Garden
This beautiful garden, representative of traditional Korean garden culture, is notable for its natural blend of valley, forest, and pond. You can take a quiet walk and feel nature up close, experiencing a calm that's hard to find in the busy city. It's a healing space where you can rest your tired body and mind.
