What makes this project special
In Bonghwa, Gyeongsangbuk-doA book-stay project where you run a bookstore in a quiet forest village, recover from the weariness of daily life, and enjoy reading and relaxation in beautiful natureThe bookstore is stocked with about 3,000 titles, including new releases, bestsellers, magazines, poetry collections, and comics; books can be rented or purchased. Nearby the bookstore you can also use a large grassy yard, a women's clothing shop, and an unmanned café.
Project Activities
You'll spend leisurely time serving as the bookstore keeper in a shop cultivated by an owner who worked as a Korean language teacher for many years. Participants who wish can also design and run various experiential programs in addition to regular bookstore duties.
1) Bookstore Operation: Recommend books to customers and experience the small pleasures of being a bookstore keeper.
2) Experience Program Planning: If participants wish, they can create small, special programs.
3) Healing in Nature: With beautiful nature as a backdrop, you can fully focus on yourself through reading, writing, meditation, and more.

This is a mixed cultural space in a mountain village of Bonghwa, Gyeongsangbuk-do, centered around a bookstore and operating a café, women’s clothing shop, pension (guesthouse), campground, and caravans. It was created by the owner, who retired with honors after many years as a Korean language teacher, with the hope that people could become close to books without feeling pressured. The bookstore is filled with books of various genres that can be bought or rented at reasonable prices. The interior of the bookstore has a warm, cozy atmosphere, so when you open a book you can quickly lose track of time and become fully absorbed. Time here does not feel hurried. On days when there are few visitors, you can read to your heart’s content and fall into reflection, or get to know occasional guests by talking about books.
You can stay at the bookseller's lodging next to the bookstore. A private room is provided along with a combined living room and kitchen, and laundry facilities and bathrooms are available as shared spaces.

Bonghwa County in North Gyeongsang Province is a healing travel destination where pristine nature and tranquil mountain village scenery blend. Located on the slopes of the Baekdudaegan mountain range, this area is attractive for its cool air and peaceful forest paths, making it a good place to find rest and relaxation away from busy daily life.
1. National Baekdudaegan Arboretum
This national facility was established for forest conservation and education and consists of themed gardens, outdoor exhibition spaces, and biological resource research zones. A variety of alpine plants, medicinal plants, and wildflowers are on display year-round, making it a great place to learn about nature while taking a walk. The arboretum's architecture and landscaping are also excellent, and its forest interpretation programs make it suitable for family travelers.
2. Cheongnyangsan Provincial Park
Cheongnyangsan, a famous mountain representing Bonghwa County, is known for its beautiful hiking trails, rocky cliffs, striking rock formations, and the Sky Bridge observatory. At the summit sits the tranquil Cheongnyangsa Temple, and attractions such as Eungjinjeon Hall, Kimsaeng Cave, and Seonyugyo Bridge are nearby, so visitors can enjoy both scenery and culture. There are routes ranging from 1 to 9 hours, so beginners and experienced hikers alike can enjoy it.
3. Buncheon Santa Village
Buncheon Santa Village is a 'Santa-themed' village that dazzles with a winter festival at year-end. The V-Train that goes there is a sightseeing train that slowly passes through the Nakdong River gorge, and the scenery where mountains and river come together is very impressive. There are various attractions and activities such as VR experiences and a mini train, offering fun experiences for both children and adults.
