By caring for stray dogs over a long period, you learn to carefully notice each dog’s behavior and mood, and to think and act from the dog’s point of view. By taking part in socialization training for many different dogs again and again, you learn that the right training methods can change depending on each dog’s personality and situation. You also get to think deeply about careers such as pet behavior specialist or dog trainer. By learning to notice dogs’ health and signs that something may be wrong, you understand the importance of daily health care and preventing problems. By helping with shelter work and adoption, you gain a broad understanding of the steps from rescuing and caring for stray dogs to socializing them and finding them homes. Watching dogs you have spent a long time with regain trust in people and learn new behaviors helps you feel the joy and responsibility of caring for living things. By spending time with people in Montenegro, you learn about ways of life and values that differ from those in Korea, and develop respect for those differences. Living in a foreign country, you solve many problems on your own and build independence and confidence as you adapt to a new place.
