PROGRAM PROVIDER INTRODUCTION

INSTITUTION INTRODUCTION

This project works with a local animal rescue organization in Barcelona. Unfortunately, more and more cats and dogs in Barcelona are being abandoned, making the roles and contributions of the rescue organizations and volunteers increasingly important. In Barcelona, abandoned animals are protected by law, and local shelters play a crucial role in managing stray cats, caring for dogs and cats in shelters, supporting adoptions, and raising awareness about animal adoption.

Additionally, the organization is focused on the long-term integration and retraining of stray dogs and cats to find them new families and prevent future abandonments. Many stray animals in Barcelona are in desperate need of care, causing the shelters to be constantly full. Volunteers' help is essential to improve the lives and environments of these animals.

Message from the Local Coordinator

Hello! I'm Rita, the project coordinator. My amazing team and I invite you to join this project :) Participate in activities for social and environmental causes in Barcelona and create positive energy in the local community. You will meet new friends from around the world with completely different cultures, and together you can make unforgettable memories while exploring and traveling. We will ensure your safety and comfort, allowing you to grow and make meaningful experiences in the community you are helping. We look forward to meeting you in Barcelona. Let's do this together!

ACCOMMODATION

ACCOMMODATION INTRODUCTION

Participants will stay at an eco-friendly volunteer house hostel accommodating up to 320 people, sharing the space with other international volunteers. This hostel is not only for volunteers but also welcomes various foreign travelers, offering a chance to experience diverse cultures. The dormitory-style accommodation houses up to 8 people per room, and each room includes air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and basic bedding. Additionally, each dormitory room is equipped with a private bathroom shared only among the roommates.

The common areas include a dining room, living room, balcony, outdoor space, terrace, and laundry facilities. The hostel provides a modern yet comfortable ambiance. Located in one of Barcelona's bustling neighborhoods, it is ideal for enjoying the city during your free time. Nearby, you will find the FC Barcelona stadium, as well as various restaurants, shops, and amenities. There are two subway stations within a 5–10-minute walking distance, as well as 14 regular bus routes, 2 night bus routes, and trams. Public transportation to the activity locations takes approximately 30 to 50 minutes, with exact travel times varying depending on the specific location. For reference, it takes about 20–25 minutes by public transport to reach 'Plaça de Catalunya,' the heart of Barcelona. The hostel is managed by a dedicated coordinator, ensuring your safety and comfort.

During the project, Spanish meals made from fresh ingredients will be provided at the hostel's restaurant for breakfast and lunch each day, including weekends. For dinner, volunteers can purchase ingredients themselves and use the hostel's shared kitchen to cook, or they can dine at local restaurants.

* The accommodation is a dormitory-style shared room. Upgrading to a private room is available upon request and at an additional cost. Please inquire if interested.

* Transportation between the project site and the hostel will be by public transport, with transportation costs to be paid locally (estimated 1–20 euros per week, varying by activity location).

* Please inquire separately if you have special dietary needs such as vegetarian or gluten-free options.

* Accommodation may change depending on local circumstances.
