The review of the Korean gapyear intern who supported the dreams of young people for a short and long period of time

Jennifer! Jeongyeon speaks

Q. Please briefly introduce yourself!
A. Hello, my name is Kim Jeongyeon, and I moved to Korea this summer vacation after living in Canada for 11 years. I immigrated to Canada when I was in the 5th grade of elementary school, and I came to Korea to visit my parents who live in Korea when I had one year left before graduating from college in Canada.

Q. What made you apply to Korea Gap Year? and what do you remember from the interview and what was your review?
A. When I had one year left before graduating from college, I decided to do an internship before graduating, so I looked for an internship in Korea.
So while looking around, I found a company called Korea Gap Year.
The phrase ‘Youth, Dreaming of Youth’ really hit home for me, who was worried about what to do after graduating from college because I had no dreams, and I thought that working at a small company rather than a large corporation would give me more opportunities to talk to the people working there, so I applied. The Korea Gap Year intern interview was an interview that I will never forget. During the interview, the CEO asked me many questions to figure out my ‘character’. He thought I was uncomfortable in the interview room and had a hard time speaking, so he moved to a coffee shop and asked me more questions, but he still couldn’t find the ‘character’ he was looking for in me. So he told me that. He said that if you don’t have a character, you don’t know what kind of person you are. It wasn’t the first time I heard that, but I remember going home shocked. I met a close friend that day and talked to him about my worries…

Q. What was your role at Korea Gap Year?
A. When I first joined Korea Gap Year, I applied as an educational development intern, and at first, I planned lectures and helped with lecture work. However, thanks to my extensive overseas experience, I ended up helping develop overseas programs and even developed a South American program. I was able to plan and develop a program from start to finish, and I learned how B2B works, how to communicate, and the ability to catch the details that consumers are concerned about.
Also, here, I had the opportunity to think about what kind of programs teenagers need, and that’s why I wanted to create a music-related program that has become an important element in my life. I’m currently developing a musical instrument-related program, and I plan to continue developing this program while taking a break from work.

Q. How was your internship at Korea Gap Year? If you could describe it in one word, what would it be?
A. Healing. A few months after I joined Korea Gap Year, my older siblings told me that I had become much brighter. I didn’t know it, but I had become more passive and darker than usual because I had been shrinking a lot while living in Canada and had been hurt by people without realizing it. I started my internship shortly after coming to Korea, so I think that’s why my dark image was highlighted even more. However, the wounds received from people are healed by people, so much so that I met such great people at Korea Gap Year, and these people helped me shake off the negative image of Korea and Koreans that I had built up while living abroad for a long time.
Coming to this company allowed me to think about what I like and what I am good at, and I was able to learn more about myself and the wider world.
Coming to Korea Gap Year gave me a lot of good advice and gave me many opportunities to challenge myself in the things I wanted to do, so it was the vacation I learned the most from during my college vacation.

Q. What was the best part of your internship?
A. I met such great people, learned a lot through many conversations, and got to know myself better.

Q. What do you want to say and regret as you leave Korea Gap Year?
A. What do you want to say as you leave Korea Gap Year? I hope that Korea Gap Year will spread quickly in people’s minds, and that many people will have time to learn more about themselves and their dreams.

Q. What are your plans after that?
A. My plan after my internship is to spend the last month of my vacation comfortably with my family, and after the vacation, I will go back to Canada and travel to places I have not been able to visit and things I have not been able to do there so far, and finish my remaining 4 months of my semester in Canada well.

Q. If you would recommend Korea Gap Year to future interns, what would be your reason and a word of recommendation?
A. If I were to recommend Korea Gap Year to future interns, the reason would be because I can meet such great…warm people, and it is an opportunity to learn a lot and have a sense of responsibility while pursuing what I want to do rather than doing what everyone else is pursuing within a set framework.

Q. How would you describe Korea Gap Year?
A. It was a place that made my last summer vacation during my college years so rewarding.

Q. Last, really last word!
A. I love you, Gap Year family!! Thank you so much for looking after me, who is not good at Korean, and helping me grow so much!!
