[Gap Year Tips] 🇹🇿 Tanzania Entry Information

Types of visas required to participate in the project

Ordinary Visa (single-entry visa)

This visa is issued for single entry and allows stays of up to 90 days for legally recognized purposes such as vacation, visits, leisure, medical treatment, or study.

Required documents and requirements

- Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining

- Visa application fee (50 USD) (as of 2024-12-02)

- One passport-sized photo

- Round-trip flight ticket

1.Visit the Tanzania Immigration Services website (www.immigration.go.tz).

2. Click 'e-services' in the top left menu.

3.Click 'Online Visa Application' or https://visa.immigration.go.tz/Access the site.

4.Click 'APPLY FOR A NEW VISA' and fill out the application.

  • If you stopped while filling out the form, you can click 'CONTINUE APPLICATION' to resume.

5. Fill in all required details on the application form.

6. Attach and upload the documents required for the visa application.

7. After that, you will receive an email containing your User Identification Number.

8. After completing the online visa application, pay the visa fee.

  • Pay with Visa or MasterCard / Swift remittance (deposit money directly into a bank account at a bank counter).

9. After payment is successful, submit the application.

10.Finally, the applicant will receive a confirmation message that the application has been received.

  • Enter your User Identification Number in 'CHECK VISA STATUS' to check the visa application status.

⚠️ Important notice -Travel insurance (ZIC) is mandatory when entering Zanzibar.

As of October 1, 2024, all foreigners entering Zanzibar (via airports and seaports) are required to purchase travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation.

Participants traveling to Zanzibar should visit the Visit Zanzibar website (visitzanzibar.go.tz) topurchase travel insurance in advance. (Card payment available)

Applies to all foreigners except holders of Tanzanian residence visas.

Failure to purchase travel insurance may result in denial of entry.

Insurance price

- Adults (18+): USD 44 (as of December 2, 2024)

 

Important notes
 

1. The passport must have a validity of at least 6 months remaining, and at least one unused visa page must be available.

2. Applicants must select the correct visa type. 

  • Project participants should apply for the above Ordinary Visa (general, single-entry visa).

3. Visa applications are processed within 10 days, so apply in advance to avoid disruptions to your travel plans.

4. If the visa application is incorrect or supporting documents are insufficient, the visa may be denied. 

5. Visa applicants are deemed to have read and agreed to the terms set out in the disclaimer. Therefore, applicants should carefully read the disclaimer before paying any fees. The disclaimer is provided at the end of the visa application.

6. There are no refunds for denied visa applications.

7. The Tanzania Immigration Department may not disclose the reasons for visa refusal to applicants.

8. Visa rules and conditions may change at any time without prior notice to applicants.
