[KGY Immigration Information] 🇳🇿 New Zealand Visa Application

*The following visa information is based on the purpose of visiting India to participate in a Korea GapYear project.

New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA)

✅ What is NZeTA?

NZeTA is a new entry security measure introduced by the New Zealand government from October 1, 2019.
Certain foreign travelers who can enter New Zealand without a visa must now apply for an NZeTA before departure.
Note that the NZeTA is not a visa, and having one does not guarantee entry to New Zealand. Travelers must also meet existing entry requirements such as holding an onward ticket, providing truthful reasons for the visit, and being in good health.

The NZeTA is required for travelers from visa-waiver countries who are visiting New Zealand for up to 3 months for tourism, family visits, or business purposes. It is also required for transit through New Zealand.

Key Features:

Valid for 2 years from the date of issuance.
Allows multiple entries during its validity period.
Does not permit employment.

✅ Who needs an NZeTA?

The following travelers must obtain an NZeTA before departing for New Zealand:

Travelers with passports from visa waiver countries
Australian permanent residents
Cruise ship passengers, regardless of nationality

Non-visa waiver travelers visiting New Zealand by cruise can choose between an NZeTA or a visa. However, those entering via New Zealand airports must have a visa.

✅ Do transit passengers need an NZeTA?

Yes, citizens of visa waiver or transit visa waiver countries passing through Auckland International Airport must have an NZeTA.

✅ Who is exempt from NZeTA?

Travelers with New Zealand or Australian passports, or valid New Zealand visas, do not need an NZeTA.

✅ When should you apply for an NZeTA and pay the IVL?

Apply for an NZeTA well before your departure to New Zealand. Processing can take up to 72 hours.
Since July 2019, applications and IVL payments can be made at immigration.govt.nz/NZeTA. The NZeTA is required for travel from October 1, 2019.
Without an NZeTA at check-in, boarding/embarkation will not be allowed. Late applications may not be processed in time.

What is IVL?
IVL (International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy) supports New Zealand's tourism infrastructure and environment protection. Most visitors must pay IVL when applying for an NZeTA.

✅ How to Apply for an NZeTA

There are two official ways to apply for an NZeTA and pay the IVL:

Download the INZ mobile app
Visit immigration.govt.nz/nzeta to complete the application

Via mobile app: NZD$17
Via website: NZD$23
IVL: NZD$35 (per traveler)

How to Apply for an NZeTA

There are two methods to apply: via the official website or the NZeTA mobile app.

✅ Website Application Process

Visit the NZeTA Official Website.

Step 1: Select Your Nationality

Choose your nationality as it appears on your passport.

Step 2: Enter Passport Details

Issuing country.
Passport number.
Passport expiration date.

Step 3: Provide Personal Information

Family/last name and given name as shown on your passport.
Indicate if you have used any other names.
Select your gender.
Enter your date of birth, city, and country of birth.
Optionally provide a national ID number if applicable.
Enter and confirm a valid email address.

Step 4: Answer Additional Questions

Do you hold an Australian permanent resident visa?
Is your purpose of travel to visit or transit through New Zealand?

Step 5: Further Declaration Questions

Are you visiting New Zealand for medical consultation or treatment?
Have you ever been deported or refused entry to any country (excluding New Zealand)?
Have you been convicted of a crime in any country?
Have you been banned from entering New Zealand after deportation?

Step 6: Upload Your Photo

Upload a passport-style photo meeting these requirements:

Clear and well-lit, with a neutral background.
No sunglasses, hats, or hair covering the face.

Step 7: Review and Confirm Details

Check all information for accuracy before submission.

Step 8: Agree to Terms

Read and agree to the terms and conditions.

Step 9: Payment

Pay the NZeTA fee and associated International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).
Fee: Approximately NZD $23 for online applications.

Step 10: Complete the Application

Once submitted, confirmation is typically provided within 72 hours via email.

✅ Mobile App Application Process


Step 1: Download the NZeTA App Available for Android and iOS (search for “NZeTA”)	Step 2: Agree to the Privacy and Terms of Use

Step 3: Scan Your Passport Use your phone to scan the photo page of your passport.	Step 4: Take a Photo Use your phone's camera to capture a clear photo of yourself.

Step 5: Enter your Passport Information	Step 6: Answer Eligibility Questions Indicate if you are transiting or visiting New Zealand. Declare any criminal convictions or previous deportations. Specify if you hold Australian permanent residency.





Step 7: Review and Confirm Check all entered information and agree to the terms.	Step 6: Make Payment Pay the required fees via the app.

Step 7: Receive Confirmation Results are typically available within 72 hours via the app or email.

Application Process for Specific Countries:

For travelers from the following countries, an NZeTA is required:

United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Japan, Indonesia

These countries fall under New Zealand's visa-waiver program. Follow the standard NZeTA application process described above.
