[KGY Immigration Information] 🇮🇳 India Visa Application

*The following visa information is based on the purpose of visiting India to participate in a Korea GapYear project.

There are two main ways to obtain an Indian visa:

  • Apply for an online e-Visa (e-Tourist Visa)
  • Obtain a visa on arrival at an Indian airport

Here’s a brief overview:

Indicate whether you’ve visited any South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka) in the past 3 years

Documents Required for e-Visa:

  • Passport copy (PDF, 10–300 KB, with at least 6 months of validity)
  • Passport-size photo (JPEG)
  • Credit card for payment
  • Parents’ details (English name, place of birth)
  • Accommodation contact details in India
  • Contact information for a reference person in India

Important Notes:

  • Land border entry is not allowed with an e-Visa
  • You cannot apply for an e-Visa while already in India
  • Modifications to the application are not possible after submission
  • You must enter India within 30 days of receiving your e-Visa
  • Applications must be submitted at least 4 days before departure, and you must bring a printed copy of the e-Visa (ETA) upon entry
  • Ensure your e-Visa (ETA) status is marked as "GRANTED"

Application Process for Specific Countries:

🇺🇸 United States

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply through the official e-Visa website for short-term visits (tourism, medical, or business). Submit an online form, passport, and photo. For long-term visas, apply at the nearest Indian consulate.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa
  • Entry Points: Same as general e-Visa conditions above

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply online for an e-Visa or via VFS Global for other types of visas (student, work, etc.). For an e-Visa, complete the application form, submit photos, and upload a scanned passport copy.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days
  • Entry Points: Same as general e-Visa conditions above

🇨🇦 Canada

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply online for an e-Visa. For a longer stay, visit the nearest Indian High Commission or consulate to apply for a regular visa.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa
  • Entry Points: Same as general e-Visa conditions above

🇳🇱 Netherlands

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply online for an e-Visa. For other visa types, go through the Indian Embassy or consulate. Complete the application online, upload documents, and submit payment.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa
  • Entry Points: Same as general e-Visa conditions above

🇫🇷 France

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply online for an e-Visa. For long-term visas, use VFS Global or visit the Indian consulate. Complete the required forms and provide scanned passport and photo.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa
  • Entry Points: Same as general e-Visa conditions above

🇮🇩 Indonesia

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply online via the official Indian e-Visa portal. Complete the form, submit a photo, and upload passport copies.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa
  • Entry Points: Same as general e-Visa conditions above

🇩🇪 Germany

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
  • How to Apply: Apply online for an e-Visa or through the Indian consulate for long-term stays. Fill in the necessary details online, attach your passport and photo, and submit.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa

  • How to Apply: Japanese citizens can apply for an e-Visa online or obtain a visa on arrival for short-term stays. The application requires submitting an online form and uploading documents.
  • Processing Time: 2–4 business days for e-Visa

🇧🇪 Belgium

  • Type of Visa: e-Visa or visa-on-arrival (tourist visa)
