Hello, I'm Yun Nah, a Korea Gap Year consultant.

Today I'm starting this post to give participants information related to travel.

While participating in the gap year program, sleeping, eating, transportation, and education are all provided so there are no difficulties, but I think people who want to travel before the program starts or after it ends will face many challenges.

So!!Tips for finding accommodation abroadI'll give them to you :)

The ultimate sleeping option: Airbnb

I've traveled a lot.
In total, about 3 years.
(3 years x 365 days x 30,000 KRW = 32,850,000 KRW?? ... Wow, if my mother found out she'd kill me)

During those three years I stayed a lot in hotels and hostels.
But after Airbnb appeared, I stopped staying at hotels and hostels altogether.

Sometimes I use hotels when I want to stay somewhere nice or when there's no Airbnb in the city,
I think Airbnb has been the dominant player in the accommodation industry for about 10–20 years.
It offers value, affordability, and comfort.

What is Airbnb?

Airbnb: Many people define Airbnb as a way to live in a local's home or live with a local family, but as of 2018 it has changed a lot. It might be more accurate to say it began changing about 2–3 years ago. While it is still about staying in a local's home, many properties are now operated specifically for Airbnb. In short, many private individuals own multiple homes and run them like hotels or resorts.

Next, it's very simple.
When you arrive at the airport, go to the home's address. Find the key or meet the host. Open the door and go inside. Rest. (It's your home for the reserved period)

For this reason, you should definitely use Airbnb.

In this post I will tell you three things.

1. How to sign up
2. How to get a coupon (Norway gives the most — as much as 52,000 KRW) to get a discount on accommodation
3. How to book and use accommodation

Now, pay attention,
Without further ado, while receiving the Norway coupon (52,000 KRW discount)
I'll show you how to sign up.

1. Click the link below.

2. Click the red button labeled 'Click' below.

3. Enter the information below and click the red button.

4. Click the green button.

5. Now click the red button in the pop-up to receive the credit.

6. A pop-up will ask for Facebook verification — just skip it! Click the last button.

7. A pop-up will ask for phone number verification, but you can do that later, so just skip it for now!

8. Email verification can also be done later all at once, so just skip it! Click the last button.

9. Skip this one too! Click the last button.

10. Ta-da! You have received 350 NOK (Norwegian currency), worth about 50,000 KRW, as credit!

11. Now just change the language to Korean and the currency to Korean won, and you're done!!

Now, when you find accommodation in the area you want and make the payment
the credit will be applied automatically and you can use Airbnb at the discounted price!!

(*Note! This credit can only be used for bookings where the accommodation price is at least 640 NOK (about 94,000 KRW)).

Airbnb's pros and cons?!

Advantages of Airbnb

1. It's cheaper than hotels.

2. It offers more space than hotels.
(Hotels are made for sleeping, while Airbnb rents out a home.)

3. There are more amenities in the accommodation.
(How often do you use hotel amenities like the pool? It's preferable to have an extra sofa and a stove you can use.)

4. You can live a bit more like a local.
(The lady next door once gave me a lemon tart)

Disadvantages of Airbnb

1. Safety can be somewhat uncertain.
(Various incidents that occasionally cause issues)

2. Reservations can sometimes be canceled.
(Airbnb appears to offer compensation measures, and you can choose to exclude such hosts.)

3. Some listings may differ from the photos or descriptions.
(From a local's perspective the photos match, but for us they can sometimes differ...!)

*** Conclusion on Airbnb

If you don't mind a little hassle, it can be convenient.
Because it's not a standardized, uniform accommodation service, choosing a place can be difficult.
But after using it once or twice, you will realize it's more attractive and more competitive than hotels.
I recommend trying Airbnb services.I do.

If there are so many listings that it's difficult to choose,
read the reviews, star ratings, location and listing descriptions provided on Airbnb,
if you read them carefully, the difficulty will be greatly reduced.

For reference, I prioritize distance and price,
I filter first by distance and price,
then filter second by the amenities provided in the accommodation,
and then I filter third by examples in reviews.

Having developed this personal method, it's now much easier than when I used to choose hotels.
