Joanne K. Rowling(Joanne K. Rowling | Robert Galbraith) Novelist

Born: July 31, 1965 (United Kingdom)

Education: BA in French and Classics, University of Exeter

Awards: Freedom of the City of London (2012)

Career: English teacher at a language school in Porto, Portugal

She enjoyed reading and writing from a young age and began writing as a hobby in elementary school, showing her friends stories she made up and writing animal-themed tales. She nurtured her dream of becoming a novelist throughout her school years, majored in French and Classics at the University of Exeter, and after graduating worked at the Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

In 1991 she experienced the difficult loss of her mother. To forget the deep sorrow and pain, she moved to Porto, Portugal with the unfinished Harry Potter manuscript. She moved to Porto, Portugal, spending her days writing and her nights teaching English, giving herself time to overcome the great ordeal that had come into her life.

Nine months after my mother died, I went to Portugal. I went there with the not-yet-finished Harry Potter manuscript and found a job teaching English in the evenings.

And, fortunately, my workplace encouraged me to write.

The gap year she spent in Portugal influenced not only her life but also the work that changed her life, Harry Potter.

My manuscript underwent many changes after my mother died.

Harry's grief over his parents' death became deeper,

more intense, and more realistic.

During that first week in Portugal I wrote my favorite chapter from 'The Philosopher's Stone', which is

'The Mirror of Erised'. And I hoped that when I returned from Portugal

I would be able to finish the book.

Actually, my greater hope than that was my daughter, Jessica.

She married a reporter from a local broadcasting company she met in Portugal and had a daughter, Jessica, butthe marriage broke up due to differences in personality and values. After returning to Britain, Joanne K. Rowling relied on government benefits while job-hunting and pursued a master's degree to obtain a teaching qualification. However, despite the busy and difficult circumstances, she did not give up writing the novel; she worked on it in her spare moments and eventually created 'Harry Potter', which sold more than 450 million copies and was made into films that earned a total of $7 billion.

If Joanne K. Rowling had given in to her circumstances and abandoned writing the novel, brooms, train stations, and owls might not now be sources of excitement for people. What situation are you in right now? Whatever it is, don't let the magical story inside you simply disappear.
