  •

Through my language study program in London, UK, I was able to take my English skills to the next level!

And, by living like a local in London during my extended leave, I naturally

was able to focus and be present in the moment—on the present, today, and now!

Study English at a world-renowned art university in London and enjoy the London life!

Jeon Jeong-mi, Korea GapYear Participant (26 years old)

    # I wanted to improve my English skills through a language program in London, UK!

Hello! My name is Jeon Jeong-mi, 26 years old. I took a leave of absence from work to study abroad, and after the Philippines, I participated in a language program in London, UK, through Korea Gap Year.

Through this language program in London, I wanted to improve my English skills and take them to the next level. That’s why I chose England to learn authentic English!

*For Jeon Jeong-mi, who wanted to improve her English skills and have a more relaxed time, she was given a personalized 1:1 mission every day that included unique challenges, English practice, and time to reflect and plan with a Gap Year notebook.

    # This was an opportunity I couldn’t easily get while working, so I was even more excited!

After I started working, I thought there would be very few opportunities in my life to travel or stay abroad for months, so I was really looking forward to this Gap Year. And the excitement of being able to live and study in one of the world’s greatest cities was also immense.

So, during my time studying English in London, I made it a goal to not hesitate or be stingy with my time or money—just to learn and enjoy without regrets! I wanted to explore every corner of London and Europe, see new things, feel new experiences, and meet new people.

    # Living like a local in London naturally helped me focus on the present, today, and right now, and live fully.

Looking back now, I was so happy to go to my local school, attend classes, chat with friends in English, and experience the streets of London—getting up in the morning, commuting, and being surrounded by people heading to work or school. It was such a joy.

Even though life was repetitive, I tried to cherish every moment, every person I met, and every experience, focusing on the present, today, and now, rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

Before coming to London, I would get overwhelmed by the smallest things and would often feel anxious or uncertain. But after living in a new environment, meeting new people, and encountering new situations, I feel like I’ve become a lot stronger.

When it comes to past events, I learned to let go quickly if I needed to forget them, reflect when necessary, and move on. If things were complicated, I took them step by step. Through this way of living in London, I feel like I’ve gradually become more positive.

    # What is a day like during an English language course in London?

9:00-10:30 I attended class, and from 11:00-12:30 after class, I had free time! Since I wasn't staying in a dormitory, my free time was completely my own. I got to explore the city of London, study English on my own, and enjoy my life in London!

    # People I Met During My Language Study in London!

During my time at the accommodation, I spent time with young people from all over the world. We sat down together and had conversations on various topics. These friends broke my stereotypes, expanded my thinking, and even made me look at myself from a new perspective by bringing back old memories of who I once was.

London, where young people from all over the world travel, was truly the most lovable and attractive city to me. I am grateful for the precious and priceless time I spent there at the age of 26.

    # My Personal Travel Recommendations!

The UK, a major country in Europe, is easily accessible with affordable flights within 2-3 hours. Since there are many holidays throughout the year, my language study program in London, which I took a break from work for, was a great opportunity for European travel!

I traveled to Brighton and Seven Sisters near London, as well as Portugal, Hungary, Belgium, Paris, and Namibia in Africa!

    # My London Language Study Gap Year Tips!

    - Language

: Most classes involve selecting a partner to discuss or debate topics, so if you participate actively, your English skills will improve a lot! Also, since the classes at the local university are with friends at similar levels, continuing to use English in your daily life after class is important for improving your communication skills.

    - Accommodation

: I enjoyed meeting and making friends with travelers from around the world at the accommodation.

    - Meals

: There was a wide variety of ready-made meals and sandwiches in the stores, and it was common to see people eating simple meals in gardens or on the streets! My friends and I would either eat lunch at a decent restaurant or garden, or mostly buy ingredients from the store and cook our own meals.

    - Packing List

: The period I studied abroad was from April to June, and London had a lot of rain with big temperature fluctuations and many chilly days. It might be a good idea to pack light outerwear or a thin long-sleeve shirt, and also a thick jacket or coat.

    My Gap Year!

    Experience ★★★★★

: I particularly felt that the time spent talking and connecting with friends from various countries at the accommodation was a unique experience that could only happen right now!

    Learning ★★★

: During my gap year in London, the local university curriculum included activities like visiting museums and art galleries every two weeks, which allowed me to share and learn from friends in various ways!

    Environment ★★★★

: Living in London gave me many opportunities to experience and observe in fields like politics, culture, art, and sports!

    Safety ★★★★

: Being a large city, London has a diverse population, and the public safety was relatively good. The school also provided general support for health and life, so basic safety seemed well-maintained!

    Leisure ★★★★

: After about 3 hours of class, the afternoon was free time, so I had the opportunity to fill my time with studies, experiences, and relaxation!
