PROJECT INTRODUCTION
This project is designed for students planning a working holiday who wish to work as baristas in cafes or restaurants in Australia. Participants will be prepared to become baristas by learning everything from the basics of coffee theory to hands-on practice. One of the biggest advantages is that participants can apply for an additional internship at a local cafe, which allows them to gain practical experience. The recommendation letter received after completing the internship also makes it easier to find a job. Build a solid foundation from the basics and prepare properly for your working holiday in Australia as a barista!

Making coffee for Australians feels a bit different from making coffee in Korea. Australian baristas, who take great pride in their coffee, manage their regular customers and engage in personal conversations with them, tailoring each cup to individual preferences. To work as a barista in Australia, you need a sociable personality, good coffee-making skills, and enough English proficiency to converse with locals. Therefore, having a recommendation letter and relevant experience is essential for working as a barista in Australia. Through this project, gain recognized skills and experience and enjoy a working holiday in an Australian cafe!

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
■ Program Details
- This project runs for 5 weeks. (Every Monday to Friday, from 1:20 PM to 5:45 PM, conducted in English)
- The classes are held for 20 hours per week and include both theoretical lessons and practical training in barista and coffee-related fields. (An average of 12 students per class, with a maximum of 18 students)
- Participants will learn basic coffee knowledge and skills, and have the opportunity to practice in an on-campus cafe, enhancing communication skills related to the service industry.
- Training and practical sessions are held at a specialized school for hotel and resort management, affiliated with our school, located in Melbourne.
- In addition to coffee-related courses, students will also receive customer service training, cafe tours, coffee roasting factory visits, market tours, cheese and wine tasting classes, and more to broaden their understanding of various fields.

Week 1 |
You will start with an orientation and attend general theory classes about coffee. Learn how to handle espresso machines, how to roast coffee beans, culinary vocabulary, and safety/food hygiene management. There will be a visit to coffee shops in downtown Melbourne to have conversations with baristas. |

Week 2 |
Learn how to use coffee machines, describe coffee menus, and handle equipment. Basics of espresso and menu, how to extract espresso, grind coffee beans, take food orders and respond to requests, and milk texturing. |

Week 3 |
Based on the theories learned so far, you will make espresso. Learn how to clean and maintain the machine and how to create a rich flavor in coffee by warming milk and frothing it. Visit a coffee roasting company and check what makes good coffee beans. Also, learn related terms and English vocabulary. |

Week 4 |
Taste the coffee you made with your classmates. Learn about hygiene management, which is as important as making coffee. Learn coffee art to create beautiful designs and bring visual pleasure to your customers! Starting from Week 4, you can practice using coffee machines in the school's cafeteria. Also, practice making coffee and selling it to external customers in a hotel/resort specialty school's café, and have an evaluation time to check your responsiveness to customer service. |

Week 5 |
Start preparing for employment as a barista! You will review all the coffee skills you have learned. Write essential documents such as Cover Letters and Resumes, and have them reviewed by the instructor. Prepare for mock interviews and role-plays, and participate in quizzes/evaluations for final checks. |

All instructors running the classes are professional educators with not only English teaching experience but also barista experience. They provide professional education and motivation to help students grow into baristas. Participants who complete the project will receive the following certificates: Hotel/Resort Vocational School Coffee Training Course Completion Certificate, Hygiene-related Certificate, Local Training Institution Certificate.

3-Week Internship Program
* The 2022 Internship Program is temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.
- Students who complete the 5-week project will have the opportunity to apply for an internship.
- The 3-week internship consists of 1 week of workshop and 2 weeks of café internship, conducted at cafes in downtown Melbourne.
The workshop includes 1:1 interviews, workplace culture, communication, and individual assessments and feedback. The internship involves 10-20 hours of work, with flexible hours depending on the café. Demonstrate your barista potential by applying all the theories and skills you've learned. After the internship, you will receive a recommendation letter confirming your experience from the café you worked at. We hope you have a successful working holiday with the barista qualification certificate and recommendation letter usable throughout Australia.

■ English Proficiency ★★ ★ ☆☆
This project focuses on practical skills and teaches necessary technical terms and practical English for employment, so a basic level of English for customer communication is required. After applying for the project, a written test and a phone interview will be conducted. If you have basic speaking skills, you should be able to pass. We recommend taking the level test first, and if you do not pass, you will receive a full refund of the registration fee.
INSTITUTION INTRODUCTION
The organization running this project was established in 2008. All classes are registered with the Australian government (CRICOS) and are accredited by NEAS, a recognized body certifying English education centers. As a result of the efforts of the teaching staff and school officials to provide better education, the institution has gained high recognition among international students worldwide and has even been selected as the Best School in Victoria.
The biggest difference of this institution is that it trains baristas who can make delicious coffee on the spot through education for students entering on a working holiday visa. Additionally, after systematic theoretical classes, practical training is conducted to acquire all the attitudes, English skills, and techniques required of local baristas in Australia. Students participating in working holidays, who have gained solid practical experience, are actively working in cafes and restaurants in Melbourne with great satisfaction and accomplishment.
* It is not easy to find employment as a barista in Australia with short-term barista qualifications typically obtained after a single day's class.
ACCOMMODATION INTRODUCTION
| Participants can choose accommodation in Melbourne according to their personal preferences and budget. For participants who have difficulty finding accommodation, Korea Gap Year will connect them with housing near Melbourne where they can stay with language school students. |
The accommodation where this project takes place is ideal for starting a stable life upon arrival in Melbourne. Located in a residential area just above the city center, it offers a quiet place to relax. Imagine the cool night air on the rooftop cafeteria and envision your upcoming Melbourne life.
■ Homestay
The accommodation is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour away from the project site. Breakfast and dinner are provided on weekdays, and three meals a day are provided on weekends. You can prepare your own breakfast and lunch at the homestay, and dinner will be provided as cooked meals. Experience daily life in an Australian local home and immerse yourself in English.

■ Residence
The apartment-style student residence is approximately 15-20 minutes from the project site. Each apartment consists of 5-6 private rooms, and you will share common kitchen and bathroom facilities with your roommates. This accommodation type allows you to have fun with friends while enjoying the privacy and independence of a private room.

* For the residence, a separate accommodation deposit of $550 is required upon arrival.

2. Fremantle, Perth
Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, boasts clear skies all year round. Fremantle, located in Perth, is a stylish European-inspired port city with emerald-green waters of the Indian Ocean. Fremantle Market, a traditional Australian market over 100 years old, is the best place to experience the charm of Fremantle. The market, which has shared the joys and sorrows of Australians for a long time, embodies the relaxed lifestyle typical of Australians. Take a stroll through the market and experience being a true Aussie.!
3. Hosier Lane
The alley between Flinders Street and Swanston and Russell Streets is known as Hosier Lane, but it's better known to us as the location of the drama ‘Sorry, I Love You’. It's also a place where you can find young people creating graffiti on walls with colorful spray paints. Meet friends from around the world who express themselves with diverse values.

■ Installment Payment Information
If you are unable to pay the full amount, please make an advance payment of 500,000 KRW and settle the remaining amount within 2 weeks. The process for confirming your participation will begin from the date of the advance payment, and we will check availability and TO. It is important to secure your spot early to participate on your preferred date and period! (No refunds once participation is confirmed)
* However, if the start date is approaching, the schedule for the remaining payment may vary depending on the situation.
■ Early Bird Discount and Emergency Application Information
All Gap Year projects are recommended to apply at least 3 months before the project start date due to the normal processing procedures and preparation period. The principle is to apply no later than 2 months before the start date. However, if there is an urgent need to participate in the project, you can use the emergency application service to pay an additional fee for faster processing.
* While we will assist with the fastest possible processing, there is a basic amount of time required for communication with local agencies and for confirming participation. Since all procedures are the same as for regular participants, those using the emergency application service must actively cooperate with the Korea Gap Year operation team.
** Those who apply more than 180 days before the start date can receive an Early Bird discount.
