My first few weeks as a Content Creator in Seoul (Internship)

  • I was really nervous for my first day as an intern in KGY.

Luckily enough I have a friend who did her internship at KGY last year too so i was prepared.

-Maria, Content Creation Intern in Seoul for 5 Months

My name is Maria Rosa and I started my first internship day at KGY on the  4th of September. I arrived in Korea on the 14th of August.  Before starting my internship I had about 3 weeks time to explore Korea and getting used to the Korean culture.

After my 14 hour flight, setting the first step in Korea was pretty exciting. I had to really get used to the hot stuffy weather since in the Netherlands it's been about 16/18 °C. From that weather to 32 °C is a big difference and was something I had to really get used to. When we arrived and went from incheon airport to our airbnb it was such an overwhelming feeling. Seeing all the mountains, big buildings and the different road signs.

All very different from what I’m used to. Although it does make me think a lot of my motherland Peru. When we arrived at our airbnb we first unpacked our luggage. Our friend Reina later on introduced us to Korean bbq. We arrived at night so there wasn’t a lot to do and we were pretty exhausted because of the flight.  The Korean bbq was so good. I’ve been to some Korean bbq places in the Netherlands but the real deal is much better.

The first culture shock was that everywhere we went, the water was free! It’s been a long long time since I had free water at a restaurant. Also that the side dishes were free too! Couldn’t imagine getting free food at a restaurant in the Netherlands. Another culture shock was the usage of the taxi. It's so easy and cheap here to order or get a taxi. It was my first time getting in a taxi. Also one I really want to mention is that people go out here till 9 am! you won't see me doing it but that is really impressive.

I was really nervous for my first day as an intern in KGY. Luckily enough I have a friend who did her internship at KGY last year too so i was prepared. KGY prepared us beforehand and also let us know what we could expect so that did help me calm down a bit and be less nervous. When I came for my first day i  was a bit nervous at first,  but later on when we got our tasks and instructions I was in my focus state. Time went by pretty quickly. I knew that it would be very quiet in the office and that the time would come to get to know everyone. So for the first day I was getting used to it pretty quickly. For the coming time i have no worries, just getting comfortable! :)
