PROGRAM PROVIDER INTRODUCTION

INSTITUTION INTRODUCTION

The organization running this project is a local NGO in Cambodia that operates various economic education and programs to enhance the economic independence of young people and improve the quality of life for local residents.
About 30% of Cambodia's population consists of young people, many of whom are in financial situations that prevent them from receiving formal education or even financial support. As a result, the youth, who should play a crucial role in the country's growth, are unable to escape poverty due to lack of education and job opportunities, perpetuating the cycle of poverty and poor living conditions.
This organization not only helps youth achieve economic independence but also fosters their personal growth, helps them develop a positive view of money, and takes the lead in reducing social problems in Cambodia through the formation of social networks.

ACCOMMODATION

ACCOMMODATION INTRODUCTION

Participants will stay at accommodation where they will live with volunteers from various nationalities. The accommodation is located about a 5-minute walk from the famous Russian Market in Phnom Penh. The building includes a restaurant and relaxation areas where volunteers can interact with each other and spend their free time.   The restaurant at the accommodation provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

2-3 person rooms / Private bathroom in room / Wi-Fi provided / Kitchen available / Laundry service provided (1 USD / kg)

* The accommodation generally uses fans, but if you prefer air conditioning or a private room, you can request these options during registration.

A Few Tips on Cambodian Transportation

The main modes of transportation in Cambodia are motorbike taxis and tuk-tuks, which are three-wheeled vehicles modified from motorbikes.
Tuk-tuks are much safer than motorbike taxis, so participants are advised to use tuk-tuks for transportation.

Tuk-tuk fares are generally negotiated with the driver before boarding, and if you are new to Cambodia and find negotiation difficult, local staff can provide guidance on estimated fares and negotiation tips.

The general one-way fare starts at around 2 USD, and costs can vary widely depending on distance, time of day, and number of passengers. Although the unfamiliar transportation system might be confusing at first, understanding Cambodia's transportation system and adapting to local culture will make your stay more enjoyable!

PROGRAM LOCATION INTRODUCTION

LOCATION INTRODUCTION

Location :    Cambodia, Phnom Penh

The official name of Cambodia is Kingdom of Cambodia, and it shares borders with Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand in the southeastern part of the Indochina Peninsula. Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is the center of economy and politics, where the painful history of French colonial rule coexists with modern development. The city is full of attractions like the National Museum, Royal Palace, Floating Pavilion, and Independence Monument. Outside of internship hours (including weekends), participants have free time to enjoy personal travel or explore Cambodia with fellow interns. Generally, after adapting to local Southeast Asian life and making friends during the internship, many participants travel to nearby Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand before returning to Korea.
