Q: Why accommodation is important to prepare while living abroad?

Accommodation is one of the important things to consider while living abroad, and as a foreigner that will be living in South Korea for a while, it’s challenging to find an accommodation by myself. While researching hundreds of options, I stumbled upon KoreaGapYear’s accommodation service, I thought it would be best to choose their package including accommodation support. Their service includes support on what kind of preference the participant would like to have. For instance, I told them everything what I really wanted for the accommodation, I want a budget friendly studio apartment that has own bedroom, kitchen, and private bathroom. I happen to get three different options regarding the accommodation types.

Q: What kind of apartment did you chose ?

I chose the Studio option, it was really a good apartment in my own opinion as if everything that I asked for is all at once, KoreaGapYear, has supported me throughout the preparation of the documents for the apartment, The best part is they have a special discount as an agency and that was really good thing for me to get the apartment. If I happen to do it by myself the fee would be much higher, but with KoreaGapYear, everything went so smoothly and the documents were prepared easily from the beginning until end of the housing contract.

Q: How did KGY support you in Accommodation Search and would you recommend it?

KoreaGapYear’s service regarding accommodation selection is superb, because I myself didn’t find any struggle since the day I arrived in South Korea, the studio apartment they provided me was super beautiful, peaceful, and convenient to any kind of travels. My apartment is suitable for me, and I didn’t find any difficulties living in my apartment, of course at times there were some simple struggles that is almost normal in any type of housing but that weren’t a problem for a long time because I had a good approach from my landlord. In addition, KoreaGapYear took care of my housing rent every month because I don’t have a Korean bank account, they are the one who’s paying in behalf of me, which I find really good and best. I couldn’t ask for more as if everything was right there without any struggle.

Q: How was the payment and finances handlded with KGY?

For the payment in my studio apartment, it should be done every end of the month with the basic maintenance included. At first I ask KoreaGapYear if it is possible to pay in advance for my whole stay and if they can do it on behalf of me. Everything went perfectly fine as I was told that it is possible. So, I didn’t have any problem at all regarding the payment for rent fee since I paid in advance and KoreaGapYear is managing all the payments, which makes my stay more convenient in South Korea.

Q: What kind of facilities did you take advantage of while being at your Studio?

I have my own mini table where I work at night, and I find this comfortable and suitable for me because I once told them that at night I need a place where I can study after my work. It never felt so tiring while studying because of the good scenery. As if it gives me the inspiration to work further and be motivated.

Imagine, the comfortable place to work is such a great feeling indeed. My building has its own café on the 3rd floor which I found really nice and great you can just easily go there if you crave for a cup of coffee. It is very safe I must say, one of the most important thing for me when it comes to an apartment is its safety and security.

The building’s living lounge has a very convenient space for every tenant at my accommodation, it consists of a kitchenette, gym, laundry, and tables for a study place. It’s open 24 hours and have to maintain its cleanliness. There’s also a specific locker that can be used in case of things needed to be left behind so that there’s no need to carry around, for example, things for exercising, clothes for gym, shoes and many more. The living lounge is very clean and very modern, every tenant can use the appliances and it’s a good place also to meet new friends and to relax after a long day of work.

Q: How is Safety & Security at your Studio?

In my own opinion, it has the best safety and security, at 8:00pm the building will automatically closed and only the person who has the keycard can go inside unless someone knows the code of the building. After that, before you go through your door hallway there’s also one main door for every floor that the key card is needed, that means you cannot go inside without the card of the tenant, and also you cannot go inside even if you know the door code because there’s no option for code. Another thing I like in my apartment is the code of my door, only I know the password so I really find it so safe because no one can come in my apartment without me, the advanced technology of South Korea proved it very well as I experienced it myself.

Q: Could you share your experiences with the location of your housing?

It had the best location for me, it is very convenient for travelling using subway because it’s just 1 minute walk to the station. I didn’t have any problem with using the subway every time I’ll go somewhere. Besides it’s super near to the Seoul station which is very convenient.

Q: What was included in your apartment on arrival?

The amenities included: - Own bathroom - Kitchen - Washing Machine - Bed - Television - Welcome kit (Mug, Pillow, Blanket, Bed Sheet, Towel)

The good part was once I arrived in my studio, the landlady helped me input my own password for my door lock, and then she toured me around my studio apartment, and just explained the rules and regulations with the building. She also gave me the welcome kit that I purchased in advance because I want to have at least something in my apartment.
