2.UNESCO World Heritage Site! Cusco, Peru's Premier Historical and Cultural Tourism City

Cusco, Peru’s representative tourist city, is a must-visit destination for any traveler to South America. With its historical Incan city features and preserved colonial architecture from the Spanish colonial period, the city itself is a fascinating destination.

Cusco’s famous landmarks include Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, as well as Plaza de Armas, Qorikancha, the Sacred Valley, Huayna Picchu, the Inca Trail Trek, and Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), which National Geographic listed as one of the '100 Places to Visit Before You Die' and many other travel attractions around the city. There are so many things to see that it’s a shame to visit briefly. Spend more time exploring and experiencing the historic charm of Cusco!

Highly Recommended by the Gap Year Planner!! Project Planning Intent Developed and Overseen by the Planner

Cusco, Peru: A Top Travel Destination Recognized by the global travel website TripAdvisor as one of the 'Top 25 Destinations of 2019', Cusco is a dream destination for South American travelers! This city, with its remnants of Inca civilization and Spanish colonial history, represents a place where the modern and the past coexist. Although Cusco is often visited briefly to see the famous Machu Picchu, experiencing Cusco reveals that it is a city full of attractions. It’s a city too wonderful to visit just for a short while.

Many tourist sites in Peru are located at altitudes above 2,000m. *Altitude sickness generally subsides within 2-4 days, but for travelers with limited time, even the discomfort can feel like a significant hurdle. To fully enjoy Cusco, consider staying for at least two weeks. This way, you can explore at a relaxed pace, learn Spanish, and interact with local Peruvians, making for an enriching experience.
