Having risen from the ashes of the Great Fire to become a major metropolis, Chicago is now a global hub for economy, trade, industry, and transportation. Chicago is a center of finance, trade, industry, and education in the U.S., and it's a city filled with world-renowned art galleries and museums. Excellent universities like the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois are also easily found here. This program is run by an institution dedicated to English education for many years. PROJECT ACTIVITIES

 

This project is a language study program starting in Chicago, USA. Enjoy learning English in the heart of Illinois, in America's third-largest city. While experiencing the vibrant urban life with international friends from around the world, you'll see rapid improvement in your English skills.

 

 

Project Activities

  • 15 hours of English classes per week, with 11-15 students per class.
  • Classes available for all levels, so participants can join regardless of their English proficiency.
  • The curriculum aims to improve English skills across listening, writing, reading, and speaking.
  • In addition to classes, you'll have various social activities to interact with friends from around the world and experience different cultures and languages.

Additional Information

  • The program runs year-round and starts every Monday. Participants can choose a study period ranging from 2 to 12 weeks.
  • On the Monday morning when the project starts, an orientation will be held. After taking a level test and receiving basic information about the school and the city, you will go on a tour of downtown Chicago in the afternoon. Get the help you need for your life in Chicago.
  • Accommodation can be selected as needed. You can choose from homestays, student dormitories, or hostels based on your preferences and budget. It takes about 50-70 minutes by public transport from accommodation to school, with a single bus ride costing approximately $2.25 (as of 2023). You can also purchase a pass if needed.

Accommodation is an optional extra. You can choose from various accommodation options based on your lifestyle and preferences. To make your stay in Chicago even more enjoyable, select the accommodation that best suits you!

 

■ Homestay

Single room / 1 meal per day (breakfast) / Shared bathroom / Basic bedding & towels

 

This accommodation type allows you to live with carefully selected local families and experience the local culture up close. You can naturally improve your language skills by conversing with family members in a comfortable atmosphere. Families with a history of hosting various students are chosen, providing a rich and immersive Chicago experience in a supportive and understanding environment.

  • If you have special dietary requirements, please inquire in advance.
  • Additional costs apply during peak seasons (early June to late August) and the Christmas period (late December).
  • It takes approximately 50-70 minutes by public transportation from the homestay to the school.
  • Additional meal options are available upon request.

This student dormitory allows you to experience a global community while living with international friends.   • Check-in is from 3 PM to 10 PM on Saturdays, and check-out is by 10 AM on Saturdays.
  • It takes approximately 20 minutes by public transportation or 30 minutes on foot from the dormitory to the school.

Chicago is renowned for its numerous art galleries, museums, and theaters, and its famous deep-dish pizza, among other culinary delights, will surely satisfy visitors. 01 Willis Tower Skydeck

The Willis Tower is the tallest building in Chicago. It was once the tallest building in the U.S., but after the completion of One World Trade Center in New York, it became the second tallest in the country. From the Skydeck on the Willis Tower, you can experience the thrill of standing on a glass platform that extends outside the building. Walking on this glass floor at over 300 meters high is an exhilarating experience.

 

02 Millennium Park

Located right next to downtown Chicago, Millennium Park is a popular urban park frequented by both tourists and locals. The park, which stretches out beside Lake Michigan, is a great place to relax. The most famous feature of Millennium Park is the Cloud Gate, a 110-ton stainless steel sculpture. Be sure to take a photo of yourself reflected in the Cloud Gate!

 Payment Installment Information

If full payment is not possible, you can pay a deposit of 500,000 KRW and the remaining balance within 2 weeks. Based on the date of the deposit, we will proceed with the process to confirm participation and availability. Early reservation is crucial to secure your desired date and duration! (No refunds once participation is confirmed)

*Note: If the start date is approaching, the schedule for paying the remaining balance may vary depending on the situation.

 

 Early Bird Discount and Emergency Application Information

We recommend applying for all Gap Year projects at least 3 months before the project start date for proper processing and preparation. Applications should be made no later than 2 months before the start date. However, if there are unavoidable circumstances or urgent needs, you can use the emergency application service for an additional fee, and we will assist you with the fastest possible processing.

*While we assist with expedited processing, basic time requirements such as communication with local agencies and confirmation of participation still apply. Emergency applicants must actively cooperate with the Korea Gap Year Operations Team as procedures are the same as for regular participants.

** Applicants who apply at least 180 days before the start date can receive an early bird discount.
