PROJECT INTRODUCTION
This project involves volunteering in Rome, Italy, where you'll teach English to various students who haven't had the chance to receive a proper education. By doing this, you can help them gain more opportunities. Share your knowledge and experience to make a difference! The small changes in many students' lives can come together to change the world.
Rome, Italy, is a vibrant city with a grand and splendid history, attracting countless people from around the world every year to enjoy its beauty. However, like everywhere, there's always a darker side to society. Due to increasingly serious social issues, our poor and marginalized neighbors are losing educational opportunities and, even more, various life opportunities.
To help them dream new dreams and not give up because of the environment they were born into, become their English teacher in Rome! Give passionate students new opportunities. They'll gain not only the chance to learn but also the hope for a better future.
In Rome, Italy, you can take the opportunity to plan and lead English classes, gaining teaching experience. Study how to communicate with students, open your heart to understand them, and do your best to help them, becoming the best teacher you can be.
The experience of leading time spent together for a better future, filled with challenges and successes, will boost your confidence and pave the way for growth towards new challenges.
The volunteers from all over the world who come to Rome live diverse lifestyles. When you live with people who think completely differently from you, your own thinking will also broaden. You'll be influenced by the fresh stimulation that you can't find in familiar places or among familiar people!
While living with foreign friends, understand their diversity, and accept the fact that you, too, are different and special. Then, instead of fitting yourself into someone else's standards, you'll gain the courage to live proudly as the person you want to be.
When you think of ‘Rome,’ the first thing that comes to mind is the movie Roman Holiday! Audrey Hepburn, as the lovely Princess Ann, starred in Roman Holiday, a classic that has been loved for a long time. Even today, many people watch the movie and visit Rome to follow in Princess Ann's footsteps.
Visit this dreamy city, put your hand in the Mouth of Truth, buy a gelato, and enjoy a special holiday like the movie's protagonist. Just like Princess Ann, who grew through her brief escape, you'll find a new version of yourself in the uniqueness of Rome.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
This project involves volunteering in Rome, Italy, to teach English to children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly who have not had access to educational opportunities. The goal is to help them gain more life opportunities.
You'll work with local organizations to design various educational programs and plan lessons and activities tailored to the students' abilities. Instead of traditional classroom lessons, you can spark interest in English through fun games and activities.

Q. Do participants have to lead the classes alone?
A. This project values participant autonomy, but you'll always have support from local staff, so leading the classes shouldn't be too difficult.
Q. What level of English proficiency is required?
A. The more fluent you are in English, the more you can teach the students. But don't worry too much about your English skills! Since most of the classes are taught through fun and engaging activities, as long as you have basic conversational skills, you can be a great teacher.
Q. Is it okay if I don't speak Italian?
A. It's perfectly fine if you don't speak Italian! The orientation before the project starts will teach you basic expressions, which should be enough. If you want to connect with the local students more quickly, learning some simple Italian phrases could be helpful.

The teaching methods can vary depending on the age group of the students.

INSTITUTION INTRODUCTION
This project is run by an NGO located in Rome, Italy, and operates in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 ("Quality Education"), 8 ("Decent Work and Economic Growth"), 10 ("Reduced Inequalities"), and 17 ("Partnerships for the Goals"). The project supports communities that lack access to educational opportunities, providing language education to a wide range of age groups, from children and adolescents to middle-aged and elderly adults, with the aim of growing together toward a brighter future.

You will be staying in an eco-friendly volunteer house incorporating sustainability concepts, alongside volunteers from around the world. The accommodation is located on the outskirts of Rome and provides easy access to essential amenities like cafes, supermarkets, ATMs, and pharmacies. The nearest bus stop is just a 5-minute walk away, offering convenient public transportation.
You will live in a bungalow with an in-house bathroom and air conditioning. Basic bedding and free Wi-Fi are provided in the house.

Breakfast and dinner are provided at the volunteer house. You can enjoy a variety of foods in a buffet style, including local Italian dishes, healthy Mediterranean options, and seasonal recipes.

Location: Rome, Italy
Rome, Italy, was the heart of the mighty Roman Empire, which is why we say "All roads lead to Rome." This city is rich in ancient ruins and historical sites. Even today, you can find remnants of Rome’s glorious past throughout the city.
Rome is also a center of Renaissance art, where many artists left their remarkable works. Millions of people come to see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling each year. It’s almost as if the city itself is a museum.
But art is not all that Rome has to offer. You can enjoy a variety of cuisines beyond just pizza and spaghetti, thanks to its rich culinary culture. The mild Mediterranean climate makes for pleasant travel, and the friendly, warm people make you feel right at home in Italy.
Recommended Destinations
01 Colosseum
The Colosseum is one of Rome's most iconic ancient structures. Built during the Roman Empire, it was a massive amphitheater that could hold over 50,000 spectators. It stands as a testament to the advanced architectural skills of ancient Rome. Although much of it has been lost over time, restoration work is ongoing, so we can expect to see the Colosseum being used in new ways in the future!
02 Vatican Museums
Located in Vatican City, the Vatican Museums are among the largest in the world. They house a vast collection of art accumulated over centuries. The museums attract about 6 million visitors each year. Notable attractions include the Pinecone Courtyard, the Maps Room, and Raphael's Rooms, as well as the marble statue of Laocoön and His Sons. Note that the museums offer free admission on the last Sunday of each month!
03 Roman Forum
Located in the heart of ancient Rome, the Roman Forum was the center of political, economic, and religious life. It was home to numerous temples, arches, and basilicas. Today, only ruins and a few columns remain, but these remnants vividly evoke the grandeur of the Roman Empire. The view of the Roman Forum from the Palatine Hill is breathtaking. How about taking a gelato and enjoying the view from the hill?

■ Installment Payment Information
If you are unable to pay in full, you can pay a deposit of 500,000 won and settle the remaining balance within 2 weeks. The process for confirming your participation will start from the date of the deposit, and we will check the availability and spots. It’s important to secure your place as soon as possible to participate on your desired dates and duration! (Refunds are not available once your participation is confirmed)
*However, if the start date is approaching, the schedule for paying the remaining balance may vary depending on the situation.

For all Gap Year projects, we recommend applying at least 3 months before the start date to follow the normal procedures and preparation period. We require applications to be made no later than 2 months before the start date. If you need to apply urgently, additional fees will apply for expedited processing.
*Although we will assist with expedited processing as much as possible, there will still be basic time requirements for communication with local agencies and confirmation of participation. Therefore, those using the urgent application service should actively cooperate with the Korea Gap Year operations team.
** Those who apply more than 180 days before the start date can receive the Early Bird discount.
