The Privilege of Youth, Gap Year
Youth is the best time to travel the world. Don’t give up traveling because of cost!
My gap year and various experiences including travel cannot be converted into money.
There are many ways to see the world even with a limited budget.
Live the best and most valuable life with your ‘money’!
If you have experience saving even a small amount for yourself and the future, plan a gap year to get the best result with that money. When you are young, what is important to you is the opportunity to travel now, not the future home purchase.
Find a job
For many students who travel abroad, the most realistic and best option is to have a job and earn money while traveling. Teaching English as a second language or teaching your native language, Korean, to foreigners is one of the most useful ways to earn money while traveling abroad. If you meet the qualifications, there are many places where you can find a job.
One of the advantages of working abroad is that you get to know the culture of the country better than just spending your holidays there. Other options include working in a bar or restaurant, or working as an au pair (where you live with a foreign family and do household chores like babysitting for a small fee while learning the language).
If you enjoy the outdoors, you can also look into fruit picking or working in the fields. All of these activities will give you the chance to meet different local people and provide you with opportunities and experiences that will help you grow.
Planning Your Trip
No one plans to fail, but plans do. Plan and consider the maximum number of ‘adventures’ and scenarios that you can experience based on your budget.
Research Your Destination
You should find the cheapest places to visit during your stay in each country and think rationally about your budget for food, travel, and accommodation. If you read and encounter travel stories of travelers who have visited that country many times, you can hear about their experiences in that particular country, and you can get tips from those experiences and it can be a useful way to avoid danger.
Even if you have a very limited budget, there are many ways to travel financially sustainably. So never give up! Experience the world through your privilege, a gap year.
