Internship Program Overview
Q: When can I start my program?
The start date is generally flexible depending on the host organization. However, after submitting your Internship Application and program fee, you must wait for confirmation of your internship placement and visa approval before booking your flight. If your placement is confirmed for a specific start date, this date is usually fixed. If you do not arrive or are absent, a fine may apply.

Q: When will I receive confirmation of my placement?
After we receive all necessary documents for your application, we will process your information and confirm availability. You will then receive a placement proposal based on your profile and interests. The confirmation process typically takes up to 8 weeks, including confirmation from the host organization.

Q: How long do the programs last?
Program lengths vary based on location, field of interest, and host organizations. The minimum duration is 8 weeks. We recommend applying at least 6 months in advance of your desired start date.

Q: Who is eligible to apply for the internship program?
Anyone 18 years or older with an interest in gaining international experience is welcome to apply. Priority is given to those who are open-minded, flexible, and understand the value of teamwork. If you're undecided about your career path and want to gain work experience before making a decision, you’re also encouraged to apply.

Q: Is accommodation provided?
Accommodation is included in some of our programs. If not, we can arrange it for you. We offer a variety of accommodation options suited to different budgets. For more details, please contact us for assistance with booking.

Q: Do I need to speak Korean?
While it's recommended to have at least an intermediate level of Korean or be fluent in English, the more Korean you know, the more responsibilities you will be given. If you're not proficient in Korean, don't worry—attitude and openness are often more important. For advice on your language proficiency, feel free to contact us.

Q: What happens if my program is unsuccessful?
We strive to ensure all internships are successful. In case of any issues, our trained staff will assist with problem-solving or help you search for a new placement if necessary. Our selection process aims to ensure a good match between participants and their placements.

Q: How are placements assigned?
Once accepted into our program, you will receive a placement proposal based on your professional background and interests. If your chosen placement is unavailable, we will offer an alternative with similar characteristics. If the placement does not meet your needs, please inform your mentor and company tutor. We will work with you to resolve any issues, but in rare cases, a mutual agreement to end the internship may be reached.

Visa and Insurance
Q: Do I need a visa, and if so, what kind?
You can use either a tourist or student visa depending on your nationality and the regulations for your country. Please consult the following resources for more information:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Korea Immigration Service
  • Hi Korea (E-Government for foreigners)
  • Korea Tourism Organization
  • Korea Visa Portal
Korea GapYear cannot sponsor your visa, but we can provide supporting documentation if needed. Please note that visa denial is beyond our control, and refunds are not applicable.

Q: Do I need insurance?
We highly recommend obtaining accident, illness, and third-party liability insurance for your time abroad.

Program Costs and Payment
Q: Do you offer paid internships?
Most of our internship placements are unpaid. Our primary goal is to help you gain international work experience and develop both hard and soft skills. Paid internships are not the focus of the Korea GapYear program.

Q: How does the payment process work?
The payment method depends on the program you choose. Typically, full payment is required upfront, although some programs may allow for a deposit with the balance due after confirmation of your acceptance. For international payments, we primarily accept bank wire transfers. Credit card payments are not supported at this time. Please check with your KGY operator or staff for more details on payment options.

Q: What happens after I receive my confirmation?
Once confirmed, you will begin your internship with an orientation session. You'll receive a welcome folder with helpful information about Korea, and our staff will address any concerns or questions you have about your program. During the orientation, your local mentor will explain your role and tasks during your internship. For information you can also visti 'My Page' on our website to find out what the next step of your program is

Q: Will I receive a job offer after my internship?
As an intermediary agency, Korea GapYear cannot guarantee a job offer after your internship. However, many of our past participants have successfully received job offers from the companies they interned with, depending on their performance and the relationships they built.
